If you have a camera and enjoy every aspect of the great outdoors, be it sober oceans, deserts, gnarly branches, animals, fungi, what, should consider some of your photos in one (or all) of these photo contests to enter. Most are annual, so, if you don't get it this year, keep in mind for next. Not only are a great goal towards you to work - you have a chance to see what think professionals about your work, and perhaps one of the many nice prizes to be won.
Wildlife photographer of the year
This year celebrates kept the 45th of annual wildlife photographer of the year by the national history museum in London and BBC Wildlife Magazine. The 12 categories (9 main and 3 special) are open both amateurs and professionals, and there are also 3 youth categories. You can enter up to 3 images for a fee of £ 20 and the jury chooses a winner and a second per category, all cash prizes (£ 500 and £ 250 for adults main categories).
For those under 18, you can up to 10 photos free of charge, in the youth categories submit ("10 years and younger", "11-14 years" and "15-17 years old"). Acceptable topics are wild animals, landscapes and plants and £ 250 and £ 100 awarded the winner and runner-up of the final in each category, respectively. The "young wildlife photographer of the year" gets to spend a day trip with a critically acclaimed nature photographer, and also receives a prize of £ 500.
The requirements are a bit more specific in the three special awards. You must send photos of species for Gerard Durrell Award for endangered wildlife award, as critical, vulnerable endangered or in the vicinity of the 2008 IUCN Red threatened list listed. Eric Hosking award is open to photographers of age 18-26, and participants are required to a portfolio of 10 image type. One Earth Award focuses on the preservation and are looking for images, promotes respect for nature. The winners of each category is awarded £ 1,000.
Is the Grand Prize, "The Wildlife Photographer of the Year", the image that selects the jury as the most memorable and striking. The award-winning photographer is £ 10,000 in a special ceremony at the national history museum in London. The victorious and suggested photos from all categories will be issued at the Museum, and then international tour. The deadline is March, 27 2009.
Wind land Smith Rice international awards
Nature's best magazine and the Smithsonian Museum of natural history owned, is this competition in memory of conservation advocate and photographers wind country named Smith rice. The 16 categories are open to professional, amateur and youth photographer, and include animal antics, creative digital, indigenous cultures, oceans, and more. One caught my attention in particular: the camera club category where a group of photographers submit up to 20 photos (not more than 3 each though). The registration fee is $25 / 20 images and prices include cash, your photo (s) collector's Edition of nature's best photography and possible inclusion in the annual exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of natural history in Washington, DC printed in the awards 2009. The 2009 deadline is May 4.
National wildlife
The 39th Edition of this annual competition is open to amateur, professional and youth photographers and for a fee of $15, you can enter up to 20 images in 7 different categories. You are looking for photos of wildlife, of course, but also backyard habitats, plants, landscapes, people and nature. The category winners will each receive $1,000 and two grand prize winners (an amateur and a professional) are per $5,000 awarded. The 2009 deadline is July 20.
The great outdoors of PDN and national geographic
Both professionals and amateurs, this competition has a variety of categories: insects and gardens, outdoor sports and activities, beaches, underwater, Islands, parks & safaris, animals, plants and scenes of the natural world. Enter the cost (per photo or photo essay consisting of up to 6 pictures) is $35 for professionals and $12 for amateurs. It is a Grand Prix - a five night stay for two at the Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya hotel in Mexico and several other prizes, including a digital camera, gift certificates to B & H, etc.. The deadline is April 20 (with the extension to May 4 for an extra $10 per image).
The euro natural foundation "nature treasures in Europe"
This competition is all about European landscapes, plants and animals. There is no cost to enter, and you can submit up to 5 photos, before March 31st deadline. Trips for 2 Spain and Germany include prices and the award-winning photographs will be issued at the Castle Wolfstein Freyung (Bavaria) and several bedruckt-and offline publications.
